Switch from SPT to ViewForge

SPT alternative for Shopify — $300 a month for a supplier catalog pipeline

SPT is not really a fitment widget. It is a distributor data pipeline — ShowMeTheParts feeds, manufacturer specs and buyer guides on the product page, live inventory and pricing sync, order export — with a Year/Make/Model search on the front of it. That is a real product and it is priced like one: $300 a month. If your fitment is your own data rather than a supplier feed, you are paying platform money for the dropdown.

$300 for the pipeline. $49 for the dropdown.

Switching from SPT

It is not a widget. It is a pipeline.

What SPT actually is

One app, and a substantial one. SPT ingests fitment from ShowMeTheParts, ACES/PIES XML or CSV, manages brand catalogs, pushes manufacturer specifications and buyer guides onto your product pages, keeps inventory and pricing in sync with your suppliers, exports orders, and puts a Year/Make/Model search with a saved garage on the front of all of it. Comparing that to a fitment app on feature count misses what it is for. It is distributor infrastructure.

The free tier is a demo, not a plan

SPT lists a free tier and it looks generous — unlimited SKUs, one managed brand catalog, product-page fitment messaging, My Garage. Read the first line again: 100 lifetime fitment lookup searches. Not per month. Total, ever. That is enough to see the app working and not enough to run a storefront for a morning. The real entry point is the Standard plan at $300 a month, and that is the number to compare against.

The question is whose data the fitment is

This is the whole decision. If your fitment arrives from suppliers — brand catalogs, ACES files, a ShowMeTheParts subscription — and you need inventory and pricing to stay current against those feeds, SPT is doing a job ViewForge does not do at any price and $300 is a reasonable number for it. If your fitment is your own, built from your own catalog and living in your own spreadsheet or your own product copy, then the pipeline is not the thing you are buying. The dropdown is. And the dropdown is $49.

Where SPT wins, plainly

Supplier inventory and pricing sync, which ViewForge does not offer. Manufacturer specs and buyer guides pushed onto the product page, which ViewForge does not offer. Real-time fitment updates against a managed brand catalog, which ViewForge does not offer. VIN and license-plate lookup, which ViewForge only reaches on the $240 Premium tier. If any of those four are load-bearing for your store, this comparison ends here and you should stay.

And where ViewForge does something they cannot

Smart Parse, on the $49 Professional tier, reads fitment out of your existing product titles and descriptions — the case where the data is neither in a supplier feed nor in a spreadsheet, but sitting in copy you already wrote. SPT has no equivalent, because it assumes the data arrives from upstream. ViewForge also ships eight vertical templates with renameable dimensions, so tractors, marine, printers and bicycles are configurations rather than out of scope.

And the fitment stays in your store

SPT holds catalog and fitment on its own platform, which is the correct architecture for a syndicated supplier feed — the data was never yours to begin with. Fitment you built yourself is different. ViewForge writes it as native Shopify metaobjects, queryable through the Admin GraphQL API and still present after an uninstall. If you assembled the fitment table by hand, that distinction is the difference between an asset and a rental.

The math

Pipeline money against fitment money.

The comparison only makes sense once you know which product you actually need. SPT Standard is $3,600 a year and includes supplier sync ViewForge does not offer — and ViewForge Professional is $588 and includes parsing SPT does not offer.

SPT alternative — frequently asked questions

What is SPT and what does it cost?

SPT — Standard Parts Toolkit — is a single Shopify app that combines supplier catalog management with fitment search. It ingests fitment from ShowMeTheParts, ACES/PIES XML or CSV, enriches product pages with manufacturer specs and buyer guides, syncs inventory and pricing with suppliers, and provides a Year/Make/Model search with My Garage and VIN or license-plate lookup. Its free tier is capped at 100 lifetime fitment lookup searches; the Standard plan is $300/month.

Is ViewForge an SPT alternative?

For the fitment layer, yes. For the supplier pipeline, no. ViewForge delivers the Year/Make/Model search, fitment badge, saved garage and product-page compatibility table from $0 to $49/month, and stores the records as Shopify metaobjects. It does not sync supplier inventory and pricing, manage brand catalogs, or push manufacturer buyer guides onto product pages. If those are why you run SPT, ViewForge does not replace it.

Does SPT have a usable free plan?

Its free plan is limited to 100 lifetime fitment lookup searches — a total, not a monthly allowance — so it works as an evaluation rather than a plan you can run a store on. ViewForge Free covers 50 products with fitment on a live store with no expiry, and includes the search widget, fitment badge, saved garage and product-page compatibility table.

What does ViewForge do that SPT does not?

Smart Parse, on the $49/month Professional tier, which extracts fitment from your existing product titles and descriptions — SPT assumes fitment arrives from a supplier feed and has no equivalent. Eight vertical templates with renameable dimensions, so tractor, marine, printer, bicycle and electronics catalogs are supported rather than out of scope. And storage as native Shopify metaobjects, so fitment you built yourself stays in your store after an uninstall.

What does SPT do that ViewForge does not?

Supplier inventory and pricing sync, managed brand catalogs with real-time fitment updates, manufacturer specifications and buyer guides on the product page, and order export to suppliers. It also includes VIN and license-plate lookup at the Standard tier, where ViewForge reaches VIN decode only on the $240/month Premium plan. SPT is automotive only.

How do I migrate from SPT to ViewForge?

Only migrate the fitment you own. Export it as CSV and map the columns in the ViewForge importer, included from the $19/month Starter tier, with fuzzy matching to collapse supplier spelling variants. If parts of the catalog came from a supplier feed you subscribe to, that data goes away with the subscription and is not yours to move — which is worth establishing before you plan the switch rather than after.

Fitment records stored as Shopify metaobjects rather than on a vendor platform
Bottom line

SPT is the right tool for a merchant reselling managed brand catalogs, syncing inventory and pricing from suppliers, and enriching product pages with manufacturer data. ViewForge does none of that and is not trying to. It is the right tool when the fitment is yours — your products, your spreadsheet, your product copy — and what you need is the search, the badge, the garage and the compatibility table, kept in your own store. One of those jobs costs $300 a month. The other costs $49. see ViewForge →
